H.M.P. High School was established in Sunamganj in the English year 1937. It is the oldest and most traditional school of the British Indian period. Located in the heart of Sunamganj city, next to Sunamganj Stadium, the school is widely recognized as a reputable school in Sunamganj.

The full name of H.M.P. High School is Haji Maqbul Purkayastha High School. The school is located in the heart of Sunamganj city, east of Sunamganj Stadium.
H.M.P. High School and College follows the national curriculum. As per the rules of the national curriculum, the students of class 9th and 11th are offered Science/Commerce/Humanities It is mandatory to choose any of these three departments and students have the freedom to choose the department of their choice, subject to fulfilling the prescribed conditions.
H.M.P. High School and College provides education in Bangla medium at primary, lower secondary, secondary and higher secondary levels under the national curriculum. For the science department, this institution has a physics lab, chemistry lab, and biology lab. There is also a computer lab for everyone's needs. The college has a rich library. The library has about 5,000 books in addition to daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly newspapers and magazines. The library is being continuously enriched and is gradually becoming a quality library.
The school also offers classes for 11th and 12th grades.
The annual winter sports competition is held at the beginning of the year.
